Flights : How to find the best deals

Flights to Spain don’t have to be expensive. Prices can vary significantly depending on your departure date, airport and flight time.
Before deciding that your flight is “too expensive”, try our tips below. You might be surprised by what you find.
Flight too expensive?
We regularly hear:
“The trip looks amazing, but the flights are too expensive.”
We get it. But don’t give up just yet.
A flight that initially costs €250 can sometimes be significantly cheaper if you compare different travel dates, airports or flight times.
Here’s how we search for flights ourselves.
Step 1: Compare Google Flights and Skyscanner.
We recommend checking both Skyscanner and Google Flights. They can sometimes show different flight combinations and booking options.
Don’t immediately focus on one specific flight. First, check which dates and airports offer the best prices. Don’t rely on just one flight search engine.
VIVA ACTIVE Tip: If you’re looking for the absolute best deal, it can be worth checking more than one version of Skyscanner as well. For example, compare your local Skyscanner site with the version of the country you’re travelling to.Step 2: Be flexible with your travel dates
One day can make a big difference.
If possible, compare different departure and return dates. Leaving a day earlier or returning a day later can sometimes save you a considerable amount of money.
VIVA ACTIVE tip: Use the Date Grid and Price Graph in Google Flights to quickly compare prices across different dates.And one more thing: check your outbound and return flights separately. Don’t automatically search for a return ticket from the start. Sometimes, booking two one-way flights, potentially with different airlines, can give you a much better deal. You might be surprised by the options!
Step 3: Compare different airports
Don’t only search from your nearest airport.
Depending on your destination, it can be worth comparing several airports in your country and neighbouring countries. For example, when travelling to Spain from Belgium, you could compare:
Sometimes travelling a little further to the airport can save you significantly on your flight.For example, a train from Brussels tot Amsterdam Airport takes 2h and starts from 25€.
Step 4: You don’t have to take the same flight as the group
Good to know!
You don’t necessarily have to travel on the same flight as the other VIVA ACTIVEparticipants.
You can choose a cheaper flight that arrives a few hours earlier or leaves a little later.
The only important thing is that you arrive in time for the start of the programme.

Depending on the availability of our coaches, padel clubs and other partners, we can sometimes look at moving the stage one day earlier or later. This can open up completely different, and sometimes much cheaper, flight options. Our advice: Don’t book your flights just yet. Ask us first.
Step 5: Check the total cost, not just the ticket price
The cheapest flight isn’t always the best deal.
Before booking, check:
A €70 flight arriving in the middle of the night may end up costing more, and being much less convenient, than a €100 flight that fits perfectly with your trip.
Step 6: Set a price alert
If you’re not ready to book immediately, you can set up a price alert on Google Flights. This allows you to keep an eye on the price and receive an alert when it changes.
